READY TO RACE? That’s KTM’s mantra. This throughbred manufacturer that has taken the motorcycle market by storm in the last few years with other (petrol driven) bikes, have been working hard on their electric offerings. All this hard R&D has culminated in three models all pretty similar in the technical side of the engine/drivetrain, but all with a different end game.
The Freeride E series uses a brushless, permanent magnet synchronous motor that can deliver 16kW (@21 bhp) with an impressive 42 Nm of Torque – that puts it close to the 300cc petrol equivalents. Water cooling the motor casings and ECU keeps the motor and the ‘brains’ running as optimally as possible no matter what terrain you’re on.
They also get round the (sometimes irritating) recharge times by having a slot-in battery. This die cast aluminium box has 360 Lithium ion cells and KTM claim it’ll last ‘about an hour’.

Chrome-moly steel frame with aluminium bottom section being braced by the engine then leads on to a re-inforced polyamide subframe, gives the Freerides excellent lightness and stiffness. Couple that stiffness with industry leading WP front suspension and ultra light aluminium CNC’ed rims and you have a beautifully designed, manufactured and quality motorcycle.

KTM’s house style of angles and sleekness are maintained in their e-bikes, and yes the seat does look a little ‘pointy’ – but get your butt on one and see what you think…
