Benelli motorcycles have signed a deal with DSK Motowheels (owned by conglomerate DSK Group) to start their push into Asia with production of certain models from the Italian brand.
DSK plan to build a new factory in Maharashtra, India, close to their existing plant in Pune which currently builds Hyosung motorcycles. Pune can handle some 3000 bikes a year and there are plans to increase output to 5000 by adding a second working shift.
DSK Benelli India recently showed off the five models that will be released for the Indian market, but will start with the “Blackster Cruiser” in early 2015 followed by the “TN 225”.
At a stated “Rs 400 crore” – that’s around £40 million it represents a big investment by DSK and proof positive that Asia is seen as an emerging market over and above Europe.
